Welcome to our site

The Austrian Association of East Asian Studies (AAEAS) is a non-profit academic organisation devoted to the study of current political, social and economic trends in China, Taiwan, Japan, Korea, and Mongolia. The association also encourages comparative social research between East Asia and other parts of the continent. AAEAS was founded in 2001 by a group of researchers from several Austrian universities in cooperation with leading scholars from Japan, Taiwan and South Korea.

About this site

Our website should assist people interested in the work of our association in gaining a better knowledge thereof. Moreover, our biannual online journal Contemporary Eastern Asia and our occasional reprint series Modern East Asia should help young Asia scholars gain a better understanding of the political and social changes of East Asia and its neighboring regions.

The association operates globally and attempts to improve the co-operation between the European and Asian academia. Sign up for free membership today and become part of this challenging attempt.
